Richmond Studios was our first stop today. This is where Broadcast Journalism majors will spend most of their time and gain most of their on-air experience! UI- 7 has both TV and radio broadcasts. These broadcasts are produced, directed, and filmed by broadcast journalism majors. From graphics, to anchors, to video and audio control, there’s always something to do! The news program is aired every Tuesday and Thursday, covering headlines, sports, weather, and everything in-between! The UI- 7 news is broadcasted to not only UIUC campus, but also to surrounding areas as far away as Springfield, Illinois. This is a wonderful place for the College of Media students to gain experience!
The Communications Library, situated in the first floor and the basement of Gregory Hall, is open to all College of Media students. Despite its small size, the library has a huge collection of over 16,000 books, newspapers and journals. Their collection deals with a variety of topics ranging from advertising, media studies, journalism, pop culture, telecommunications and public relations. The staff at the Communications Library is also extremely friendly, as they are always willing to help if you ever need help browsing through the massive collection!

Did you know?
-In the basement of the libraries, there are currently three TVs that show three American news channels. However, soon you will be able to see much more than that! The library is in the process of getting TVs for news from all around the world. Africa, South Korea, Russia, you name it!

-If you can’t make it to the library in person, the library’s website is a wonderful tool. On the sidebars, there are categories such as Key Resources which directly takes you to helpful academic search engines and websites.

-If you are looking for course guides for your College of Media courses, there’s also a section for that on the library website as well! Under the Course Guides section, you can look for your COM course. On the course’s page will be various information including useful databases, information on books and journals, and assistance with citations.

Next we headed to llini Media Center which is  located at 512 E. Green Street and holds offices for WPGU (the student-run radio station), The Daily Illini (a student-run newspaper), Buzz (a weekly entertainment periodical), The Illio (the yearbook), The Illinois Technograph (an engineering magazine), and the217.com (an entertainment website linked with Buzz and WPGU). Illini Media has been in operation since 1911 and has gone through multiple organizational changes. It was originally named the Illinois Publishing Company and it focused on Illinois Agricultural News. It has since evolved into a news service that produces news on multiple areas of Illini events.
