On this Sunday, our group spent the afternoon at the Krannert Art Museum. Within the bustling campus of the University of Illinois, a tall, white building demands the attention of those passing by. It seems to be sitting peacefully on a campus that is roaring with football games, passing cars, and booming dorm room music. What is this immaculate building? The Krannert Art Museum. Opened in 1961, this museum is now the second largest art museum in the state of Illinois. Today the Krannert Art Museum houses over 9,000 works in 10 unique galleries, within 48,000 square feet of creative space. Additionally, between 12 and 15 changing exhibits move in and out of Krannert annually, displaying national and international exhibits. With more than 132,000 visitors a year, Krannert has alot to keep up with, but as Group 28 witnessed on Sunday, this museum has done a great job keeping up with the changing world of art.
